A business with purpose beyond profit
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“The believers, in their love, mutual kindness and close ties are like one body; when any part complains, the whole body responds to it with wakefulness and fever”.
Inspired by the Islamic teachings of empathy, generosity and selflessness, we aim to do our bit to help reduce poverty and suffering across the world. We hope to do this through projects such as building water pumps and shelters in areas where access to clean water and sanitation is not easily accessible.
We are driven by our desire to see equality between the rich and poor, with better education and facilities for those in need. We are compassionate and sensitive to the needs of others and their conditions.
The following hadith inspires us to look beyond our own profit:
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“None of you will believe until you love for your brother what you love for yourself”.
Through the development of simplegirlsstore.com, we hope to gain opportunities to make a positive contribution to Our Ummah. It’s the heart of a Muslim through the guidance of Islam that makes us fair, kind and helpful. So living as a Muslim means that we must play a part. We intend to highlight our charitable work only to raise awareness and encourage others.
Transforming a life costs us little but ensures us a place in Paradise inshaAllah. We ask Allah to relieve the situations of Muslims throughout the world and allow us to help achieve this in every way possible. Ameen.
Philippines Water Well Project
Ending poverty and creating a more prosperous world for the poorest people cannot be done without safe water. Although it is a basic human right, it is not one that is easily accessible to everybody. However though charitable acts we can provide a way of improving the quality of life of the those that are poor. Clean drinking water and good hygiene is essential, yet millions are suffering without it. A good water supply has so many benefits, it can be used for drinking, washing, cooking, cleaning and growing crops which can be sold to earn a living.
Deep water wells can provide access to clean water for years! This is way we chose to invest in building one, with the hope of building more in the future. In rural areas wells like this are seen as a lifeline to people, as they could easily be the only source of water for miles.
This particular project was carried out in Mindanao, south of the Philippines in the City of Zamboanga. Mindanao has a large Muslim community that has been in the area for approximately 100 years. They are extremely poor and all live below the poverty line. The water well was constructed in a village called Talon Talon, clean water is provided to approximately 112 people. This project was made possible by Ummah Welfare who worked hard to build the well and kindly sent us photographs of the site. We would like to take this opportunity to express our gratitude to them for helping us support the people of the Philippines.
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“One who strives to help the poor is like one who struggles in the cause of Allah”.
Providing water is a way of offering continuous charity as you can expect to reap Allah’s blessing for as long as the well is able to supply water. Please make a donation if it is within your capabilities, it may be a small gesture on your part but can change the lives of many people.
We hope that Allah accepts all our efforts. Ameen.
Bangladesh Hand Pump
According to the World Health Organisation around 768 million people in the world (about one in ten people) live without access to safe, clean water. A further 2.4 billion (about one third of the world’s population) do not have adequate sanitation. These people must choose between drinking, cooking and washing with dirty, contaminated water or no water at all. They are at constant risk of contracting waterborne diseases like dysentery, diarrhoea and cholera, which can be fatal.
Water is a basic necessity, one that people cannot live without. People of the Rangpur division, situated in Bangladesh are extremely poor. They do not have access to a direct, clean and safe portable water supply. Many people in the Panchagarth district are unemployed due to lack of skills and education, this in turn has had a negative impact on their daily lives. As their income is low, they do not have the resources to make the arrangements for a water supply in their villages.
One of the quickest and easiest ways to provide drinking water is by creating a hand operated water pump, it is also a cost efficient option. A water hand pump was constructed in Kalashor village and is used by many villagers. It is a great gift to give and Allah will reward your efforts.
The Quran says:
“By no means shall you attain righteousness until you spend out of what you love and whatever thing you spend, Allah surely knows it.”
Being able to donate large amounts of money is ideal, but it is not something that is very realistic for everyone – and that is all right. As emphasised in the quote above, it is important to realise that £500 is not worth more in the eyes of Allah than £50, what defines the money’s worth is the intention used when giving it away. If one sincerely hopes to help those less fortunate, without being boastful then surely Allah will be pleased with his efforts. You will be rewarded well, regardless of how much you donate. Little acts of generosity are easy to carry out and can have a huge positive outcome. Making small monthly donations for a good cause is an excellent way to spend your money. It will benefit those that receive your donation and it will raise your ranking in the eyes of Allah – it is a win win situation for all!
There are two organisations we would like to mention:
Sightsavers works to change lives. There are 39 million blind people in the world, but 80 % of blindness could be prevented or cured, that is 31.2 million people who are blind when it could have been avoided. How devastating is that statistic? However Sightsavers works in more than 30 countries to prevent blindness and support those that are irreversibly blind or disabled to live independently.
WaterAid has a mission is to transform the lives of the poor by improving access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene. 650 million people live without safe water and 2.3 billion people do not have access to adequate sanitation, that is 1 in 3 of the world’s population. Tragically young children are not surviving to see their 5th birthday because of preventable diseases, as many as 900 children die everyday.
Both organisations are doing fantastic work! By donating £2 a month to WaterAid would allow a rainwater collection system to be made, this would give people better access to water so that they would not be forced to drink and use contaminated water. Donating £4 a month with Sightsavers could pay for a cataract operation to give a child back their sight.
Think of the number of £2’s and £4’s we spend daily without as much as a second thought, surely this would be a beneficial way of utilising your money?
